Unity, Pride, Integrity

In following this motto as a Flyer, each member will work as a team, have fun, and be successful.

Unity is the quintessential part of a successful team.  Many believe swimming is an individual only sport.  Just remember that no one does anything alone.  You work hard in practice by working with your teammates and pushing each other to be better.  No one swims fast in a quiet pool alone.  Think back to a time when you swam your best time or were able to out touch an opponent at the end of a relay, was it quiet?  Of course not.  Everyone swims better with teammates cheering and supporting for them.  Showing up to social functions and hanging out with the team is a great way to show your unity, and is obviously fun.  Unity starts at practice, becomes natural, and prevails at meets.  Our unity will be strong.

Pride is an absolute must in all sports.  It starts with Pride in you.  Think to yourself before you come to practice, do I have enough pride in myself to show up on time? To bring everything I need to practice, i.e. goggles, suit? To be prepared to work hard and listen to the coaches?  All great swimmers and leaders do this.  Your pride in yourself is what sets the tone for your life, for your activities, and the relationships you have with peers.  We as a team will have pride in our workouts, our competitions, our spirit and most importantly having fun!

Integrity is the final piece to the puzzle.  Integrity in definition means the quality or condition of being whole or undivided; completeness. In swimming we need to show this in our workouts, in our cheering, and in our competition.  This will help us set the ground work for a great season.  Preserving the integrity of our sport, our team concept and reputation is extremely important . 

By putting these 3 elements together The Fairfax Station Flyers will be a fun and successful team. 1 of these alone does not make swimming fun or win meets; you will need all 3 working together and throughout every team member.
